What is an AI agent?

An AI agent gets a goal and reaches it in several steps using tools, instead of just answering a question. Here’s the difference from a chat, without the jargon.

A regular AI chat answers a question and then it’s done. An AI agent, on the other hand, gets a goal and reaches it in several steps: it searches, reads, compares, and writes, deciding for itself what the next step should be.

The difference is clearest in an example. The question "what meetings do I have tomorrow?" is something a chat can answer if it can see your calendar. The goal "prepare for my day tomorrow: read the calendar, search internally about each meeting, and write a note for each one" needs an agent: multiple tools, multiple steps, and a finished result instead of just an answer.

The important thing to ask about an AI agent isn’t what it can do, but what it’s allowed to do: which tools it has access to, who approves the steps before they run, what a run is allowed to cost, and what happens when it’s unsure. An agent that works incorrectly in silence, week after week, is worse than no agent at all.

In EuroWork, the agent is called The AI colleague: you give it a goal, approve the plan step by step, set a rhythm if the task should repeat, and every run leaves a receipt of what it did and what it cost.

EuroWork

Your employees are already using AI, often in private accounts where no one sees what gets pasted in. EuroWork gives the same AI help in one place where you are in control: sensitive data is caught before it is sent, processing stays in the EU, every answer shows its price and management sets the rules.
