What is a prompt?
A prompt is what you write to an AI, and it’s the single most important thing you can improve. The same rules apply as when you ask a colleague for help.
A prompt is simply what you write to an AI: the question, the instruction, the task. The word sounds technical, but the closest everyday word in English is "request".
What makes a prompt good is the same thing that makes a request to a colleague good: say who you are, what you want, what you’re bringing to the table, how long the answer should be, and what should be left out. "Write something about our meeting" will get you a vague response. "Here are my notes from the management meeting, turn them into minutes: what was decided, by whom, and what needs to happen by next time" will get you something you can actually use.
A common misunderstanding is that there are magical phrases. There aren’t. What there is, is clarity: the more of your thinking you put into the request, the less the AI has to guess.
